Where are you located and what areas do you serve?

I am based out of San Jose, CA, so I’m able to directly serve the San Francisco Bay Area. But I travel frequently - most often to Los Angeles, NYC, and my hometown of Greensboro, NC. I have a huge love for travel, so I’m open and available to go wherever the job takes me! Click here to inquire about my travel fees if you aren’t in my area. How long have you been shooting?

I’ve had a love for photography since I was 7 years old, when I entered a photography competition at my school and won 3rd place. I got my Associates degree in photography from Randolph Community College in North Carolina, which has offered a well respected photography program for over 50 years. After graduation, I headed out to sunny California! While living in Los Angeles, I was a photo assistant for a short time working with some fabulous photographers like Jim Wright, Jerry Avenaim, Michel Comte, Chris Baldwin, Matthew Gunther, and Tamara Reynolds. To help pay the bills throughout college and in the years following graduation, I worked for a recruiting firm for Healthcare Information Technology. When that turned back to a full time gig (it was 2008 and the economy had just gone bust which equaled not a lot of photo assisting jobs to be had), photography became just a hobby. A few years ago, with the encouragement and help of a very supportive and loving husband, I decided to leave the corporate world behind and get back to my passion - pursuing photography! It’s been a long road full of side jobs, growth and learning how to be a business owner, but thankfully I’m finally getting the hang of it!

 


 

What is branding photography?

Branding photography showcases your personality and what you offer whether the “you” is a self-employed, small business owner or the collective “you” of a company. It helps portray this to your clients in a visual way, which is the quickest and most efficient way to capture their attention. What kinds of businesses do you want as a client?

I describe myself as a branding photographer (rather than a personal branding photographer, a headshot photographer, a product photographer, etc) because it encompasses a broader range than other descriptors. I choose to use the term “branding photography” because I want to help all kinds of people and businesses: the self-employed, small business owner; bloggers and influencers; restaurants and bakeries; retail shops - both online and brick-and-mortar; real estate agencies; tech startups; medical offices; hospitality; and other products and companies. And while I definitely do headshots, it’s nowhere near the only service I offer. Showing off the brand and culture of a company from a visual standpoint is what I aim to do!

 


 

Why do you focus on branding photography?

I love getting to know new people. Learning all about my clients and their businesses is part of the fun for me! The fact that you are all so different is exciting, and I love constantly tackling a new challenge. It’s my desire to create bright, crisp, colorful photographs that showcase who you are and what your business offers in order to attract your optimal clientele.

 


 

What does the process of working with you look like?

  1. PLANNING:
    We work together to establish your goals for your branded photos, to select the location for the shoot, and create a pinterest inspiration board and shot list of specific images you know you want. This could take anywhere from a day to a couple weeks, depending on how fast you want to go!
     

  2. PHOTO SHOOT DAY:
    Once you show up, we’ll get right to work capturing your inspiration images and you’ll be able to change your outfit as often as time will allow. Typically the essential package allows for one outfit change, the classic allows for up to three, and the premium allows for up to six. Depending on your package, we may move to a second location. I’ll have you check the back of my camera to see the shots we are capturing throughout, so you won’t have to wait for the gallery to have an idea of what we’ve created! (If you’ve hired a hair and makeup artist for your shoot, you’ll want to be finished well before our scheduled start time. I’ll help you plan the day so you won’t have to stress about this!)
     

  3. EDITING:
    Within five business days of your shoot, you’ll receive your online proofing gallery which you’ll use to select your favorites. Once I’ve received your selections, I’ll begin retouching your images and send your final gallery to you within four weeks. You’ll get an email when your gallery is ready, so you can immediately view your images and have your own little dance party.
     

  4. YOUR FEATURE:
    As you may have noticed, I love to promote the businesses of my clients online. All packages include a featured post on my blog and social media. We’ll highlight you and your business, along with your new branded photos!

 


 

Do you recommend hair and makeup services?

I absolutely do. Unless you are 100% confident in your ability to do your own professional quality hair and makeup, I always recommend hiring someone to do this for you before a shoot. Professional photography is an investment. Hiring a hair and makeup artist can help maintain the value of that investment immensely, because they know what will look best on camera. And you want to feel and look your best so we can create some killer images together!

 


 

Do you charge a travel fee?

My prices are based on a 20 mile radius of my home office. Anything outside of that range will receive a charge of $1 per additional mile. For travel that would require hotel stay or flights, I’m 100% down! Please contact me for a custom quote.
